When you’re seeking a break from the frantic rollercoaster of life and need some time spent in the quiet and peace of nature, come to home in Potter County, aka “God’s Country”. At just 25 min from Cherry Springs State Park and less than an hour from many others, you can be on the trails quickly. One of our guests’ favorite things about our house is the private stargazing field. The night sky is so clear here! Our home is custom-built and handcrafted, with features you won’t find anywhere else.

The Space

Living Spaces:

Enter the front door and you’ll be immediately transported back to a slower and more intentional time. Warm wood and whole log beams create a uniquely welcoming atmosphere. The furnishings perfectly complement the living room. Cozy sofas (one of which opens up to a sleeper sofa) and a butter-soft leather recliner invite you to gather around the electric fireplace and sip on a cup of hot cocoa while streaming your favorite bingeable show on the TV with high-speed WiFi.

Cooking & Dining:

Your fully-stocked kitchen features everything you’ll need to create a delicious meal. How about a big pot of chili for a cold winter’s day? Between seating at the peninsula bar and an adjacent dining table for 6, it’s easy to enjoy a family or group meal together. It’s the perfect opportunity to share plans and tales of your adventures!

Sleeping Accommodations and Bathrooms:

Great Bear Cabin offers 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths. The primary suite is on the main level and will have you resting easy in a king-size bed with ensuite bath. Guests will also find an additional full bath on the main level.

Walk up the gorgeous custom staircase made of split logs to a bedroom sporting two full beds, an electric fireplace, and if you simply must, a private workstation, complete with desk and chair. A full bath is adjacent in the hallway.

The kids’ loft, is complete with two twin beds, the third electric fireplace, and an oversized bean bag chair.

Don’t worry about packing for a long stay - we’ve got a washer and dryer on site. Also, we love welcoming our youngest guests with two-pack ‘n plays.

Furry friends are part of the family and welcome here, as well. rs, docking station, wireless keyboard/mouse, and printer!

Outdoor Amenities:

You’ll particularly love our private 4 person hot tub. We often have deer in the back yard and nothing compliments a relaxing soak in the tub like watching wildlife up close and personal.

The Great Bear Cabin also features an oversized fire pit and private stargazing field, from where you can marvel at the seemingly endless array of stars in the clear night sky.

Hello! We are Josh and Laurie and we’re thrilled that you’ve chosen the Great Bear Cabin as your vacation destination.

Josh definitely has a sentimental attachment to this home. It is located in his hometown of Coudersport, PA! He has always had a soft spot for log cabins after watching his father and grandfather build many in the area.

When this property became available, we purchased it sight unseen! We’d driven by many times and knew the builder, so we were sure we would love it! (We were right.)

If Josh has his way, we may well retire to this property. In the meantime, we are happy to share this beautiful and little-known area with our guests.

Besides the Great Bear Cabin, a couple of our great loves are (not surprisingly) travel, and the outdoors. We also enjoy hunting, fishing, and skiing on both the water and the land!

What a breath of fresh air! The Great Bear Cabin was the perfect getaway we were looking for. It was very peaceful, clean, and cozy. I also have to mention that the beds were so comfortable we didn’t want to leave! We can’t wait to come back this summer.

This place was exactly what we needed when we needed it. After staying in five previous air bnbs on the same, 3 week, trip this was the last stop and we were ready to relax and rest before driving back home. We enjoyed so many relaxing spaces outside and inside! The front porch has such a pretty view as the sun was setting - we started our evenings there. The fire pit was awesome - nothing better than a smokeless fire stove with so many stars overhead. The hot tub was a great addition and we loved walking up to the field to look at the stars. We got very lucky and had beautiful nights for star gazing. No need to go to Cherry Springs whatsoever.
