When you’re seeking a break from the frantic rollercoaster of life and need some time spent in the quiet and peace of nature, come to home in Potter County, aka “God’s Country”. At just 25 min from Cherry Springs State Park and less than an hour from many others, you can be on the trails quickly. One of our guests’ favorite things about our house is the private stargazing field. The night sky is so clear here! Our home is custom-built and handcrafted, with features you won’t find anywhere else.

The space

You’ve just arrived after a long day of navigating, driving, and shopping. Following a private drive, you’ll come upon your vacation home with its green metal roof, skylights to welcome in abundant sunshine, a bay window to admire the view, and a rocking chair front porch to while the hours away. Yes, you have indeed arrived.

Living Spaces:

Enter the front door and you’ll be immediately transported back to a slower and more intentional time. Warm wood and whole log beams create a uniquely welcoming atmosphere. The furnishings perfectly complement the living room. Cozy sofas (one of which opens up to a sleeper sofa) and a butter-soft leather recliner invite you to gather around the electric fireplace and sip on a cup of hot cocoa while streaming your favorite bingeable show on the TV with high-speed WiFi.

Cooking & Dining:

Your fully-stocked kitchen features everything you’ll need to create a delicious meal. How about a big pot of chili for a cold winter’s day? Between seating at the peninsula bar and an adjacent dining table for 8, it’s easy to enjoy a family or group meal together. It’s the perfect opportunity to share plans and tales of your adventures!

Sleeping Accommodations and Bathrooms:

Great Bear Cabin offers 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths. The primary suite is on the main level and will have you resting easy in a king-size bed with ensuite bath. Guests will also find an additional full bath on the main level.
Walk up the gorgeous custom staircase made of split logs to a bedroom sporting two full beds, an electric fireplace, and if you simply must, a private workstation, complete with desk and chair. A full bath is adjacent in the hallway.
The kids’ loft, is complete with two twin beds, the third electric fireplace, and a sleeper sofa.
Don’t worry about packing for a long stay – we’ve got a washer and dryer on site. Also, we love welcoming our youngest guests with two-pack ‘n plays.
Furry friends are part of the family and welcome here, as well.

Outdoor Amenities

You’ll particularly love our private 4 person hot tub. We often have deer in the back yard and nothing compliments a relaxing soak in the tub like watching wildlife up close and personal.

The Great Bear Cabin also features an oversized fire pit and private stargazing field, from where you can marvel at the seemingly endless array of stars in the clear night sky.

Self check-in with keyless pin pad and parking for up to 4 vehicles.

Other things to note

Our home is not wheelchair accessible.

4×4 or AWD vehicles are highly recommended in the winter months.

Window A/C Units are provided from Memorial Day (Late May) to Labor Day (Early September)

No smoking or vaping indoors.

No parties or events.

No hunting or trapping on the property.

Parking for up to 6 vehicles, parking additional vehicles RV’s, trailers, etc. in is permitted on the long driveway or field road (not in the yard).

Motorized vehicles are permitted to drive around the property on the field road and around the edge of the field (speed limit = 5mph) from April to October only. We do not have ATV or Snowmobile trails on the property. However, there is an ATV/Snowmobile-approved road, which connects to a nearly infinite amount of approved roads and trails just 0.4 miles from the driveway.

01. Home Access
4x4 or AWD vehicles are highly recommended to access the property from November to March due to the possibility of wintery road conditions and the steepness of the driveway. This home is located in the "Snow Belt" and can receive lake effect snow from lake Erie at a moment's notice. The home is off a well-maintained road and the driveway is routinely plowed after a snowfall, however, the hosts highly recommend guests utilize 4x4 or AWD vehicles during the winter months to more safely navigate the area and to make it up the driveway, which can be difficult for FWD/RWD vehicles or inexperienced wintery condition drivers. Guests who do not read this statement or follow this recommendation will not be refunded or reimbursed for not being able to access the home during the winter months.

02. Parking
There is enough room to park 4-5 vehicles at the home. Guests may not use the yard to park additional vehicles RV's, trailers, etc. Please keep all vehicles on the driveway unless given explicit permission from the hosts.

03. ATV's, UTV's, Snowmobiles, etc.
This home is located only 0.4 miles away from a road approved for ATV's/UTV's/Snowmobiles. The hosts welcome guests who are traveling with these types of motorized vehicles. With that being said these types of vehicles are not to be used on the property itself. This property does not have trails nor is the field above the house authorized to be driven on with any motorized vehicles. If you desire to bring a large trailer to haul these types of vehicles first discuss with the host as to where you may stage the trailer. Parking a trailer in the yard is not acceptable outside of the rare occasion when the ground is frozen or hard from a draught.

04. Short-Term Residency
Guests expressly acknowledge and agree that this Agreement is for transient occupancy of the Property, and that Guests do not intend to make the property a residence or household.

05. Subletting
The Guest shall not sublet the property at any time, or for any reason.

06. Maximum Occupancy
Guest shall have no more than twelve (12) persons reside in or sleep at the Property. Guests under the age of two (2) are not counted toward the maximum occupancy. If at any point the Host discovers that more than twelve (12) persons over the age of two (2) are residing or sleeping on the premises, this shall be grounds for immediate termination of this agreement and Guests shall immediately vacate the premises, without refund. Guest must provide an accurate guest count, including all adults, children, and infants, at least 48 hours before the scheduled reservation.

07. Parties & Events
Large gatherings such as weddings, receptions, fundraisers, parties, etc. are not permitted at the Property. Such events are disruptive to the neighbors and community, due to excessive vehicles, loud music etc. Bands, DJs, or other 3rd party entertainment is strictly prohibited. The rental agreement will be terminated immediately and the Guests shall vacate the Property if these terms are violated. Guest will be subject to payment of any penalties or fees incurred by Host. No refunds or compensation will be given, and the Guest forfeits the security deposit for violation of this agreement.

08. Weather Conditions & Unexpected Events
There shall be no refunds of rents due to shortened stays or ruined expectations because of weather conditions or due to work and family emergencies or other commitments. Unused accommodations caused either by late arrival or early departure or for no shows are not refundable. Travel insurance is strongly advised.

09. Scheduled Maintenance
The Property requires periodic maintenance, including lawn-mowing, groundskeeping, etc. These services are handled 3rd party professionals, each with their own schedules, which can be impacted by weather or other undisclosed factors. Guest is hereby notified that the possibility exists that one or more of these scheduled services could occur during Guest’s stay. Guest agrees to not deter or interfere with any scheduled maintenance teams.

10. Personal Valuables
Host is not responsible for the loss of money, jewelry or valuables of any kind. All items left behind by any and all Guests are the sole responsibility of the Guest.

11. Sporting Equipment & Games
Guest may use any of the games or sporting equipment provided within the home, however Guest must do so at their own risk. The host is not responsible or liable for any injury, death, or damages caused by the use of any games or sporting equipment by Guests or guests of Guest.

12. Hazardous & Flammable Materials
The Guest agrees that Fireworks and other hazardous materials shall not be stored or used in or on the Property, additionally flammable oils, fluids or explosives shall not be brought onto the property. A propane grill is provided for use by Guests, and must remain on the provided stone platform at all times, it is not to be used inside the home nor under the cover of the porches. A near smokeless firepit is provided for the guests and may not be moved. Only firewood and the provided firestarters are permitted to be used in the firepit. The provided firestarters are all that is necessary to start a fire. Gasoline and other hydrocarbons are not to be used anywhere near the firepit. Garbage of any sort is not to be burned in the firepit or anywhere else on the property.

13. Smoking, Vaping, & Use of Controlled Substances
For the comfort and health of all our Guests, there shall be absolutely no smoking or vaping inside the home. When smoking outside, remember we are adjacent to the forest and a fire would be devastating for generations to come, and subject to potential criminal prosecution. Please dispose of all cigarette butts in a safe and secure manner. Violations of these rules will result in the Host filing a claim against the Guest.

14. Electric Fire Places
The proper use of the provided electric fireplaces is critical for safety. No guests under the age of 14 are permitted to activate the fireplaces, and the fireplaces shall be returned to the off-state each and every time the Property is left vacant. While using the fireplaces, caution must be taken to not place any items within 12 inches of the glass shield. The host is not responsible for injury or damages to guests or personal property caused by the fireplace.

15. Animals & Pets
Up to 3 Dogs under 80 lbs are allowed on the premises (other pets including cats are not). Pet messes, stains and waste must be cleaned up by the Guest immediately. Any pet messes, stains or waste (inside or outside) left by the Guest will result in the Host filing a claim against the Guest. Pets may not be left at the property unattended, unless securely crated. Pets are not to be left outside of the home unattended, for the safety of both the animals, and wildlife. The presence of unauthorized animals or pets, even if not overnight, will result in eviction, and/or the Host filing a claim against the Guest.

16. Engagement with Area Wildlife
The Host is not responsible for any injury sustained by any Guests or guests of Guest from any wildlife, domesticated animals or pests. Please keep at least 100ft distance from all wildlife, and please do not feed them, as this will help reduce the risk of confrontation and injury.

17. Video/Audio Surveillance
The Guest acknowledges that the front exterior of the property is monitored by a video surveillance system. This system is used to monitor deliveries, the trash bins, guest arrival/departure, and maintenance crew arrival/departure. There are no interior video or audio surveillance devices at the property.

18. Hunting
Hunting and/or trapping of any kind is not permitted on the property. Please do not ask, the answer is no.
